"Sweet Georgia Brown" (1925) e "Georgia on my Mind" (1930). A primeira canção possui um "swing" contagiante, e a segunda é uma balada triste ("blue") e romântica. As duas lindas! Duas Georgias...duas pérolas do cancioneiro norte-americano.
"Sweet Georgia Brown" foi composta para uma doce mulher batizada em homenagem ao estado de Georgia. A canção, tempos depois, se tornou o tema do time de basquete Harlem Globetrotters. Lembro-me demais disso até hoje já que jogava muito basquete na infância e adolescência, e cheguei a ver os Globetrotters ao vivo, fora o desenho animado.
Cantada por inúmeros cantores, inclui aqui a versão dos Beatles, acompanhando Tony Sheridan.
Sweet Georgia Brown
(Ben Bernie, Maceo Pinkard e Kenneth Casey)
No gal made has got a shade on Sweet Georgia Brown
Two left feet, oh so neat, has Sweet Georgia Brown
They all sigh and want to die for Sweet Georgia Brown
I'll tell you just why, you know I don't lie not much
Fellas she can't get must be fellas she ain't met
Georgia claimed her, Georgia named her Sweet Georgia Brown
No gal made has got a shade on Sweet Georgia brown
Two left feet, oh so neat, has Sweet Georgia Brown
They all sigh and want to die for Sweet Georgia Brown
I'll tell you just why, you know I don't lie not much
All those gifts, those courters give to Sweet Georgia Brown
They buy clothes at fashion shows with one dollar down
Oh boy, tip your hat, oh joy, she's the cat
Who's that, mister? It ain't a sister, Sweet Georgia Brown
Georgia on my Mind
(Hoagy Carmichael e Stuart Gorrell)
Two left feet, oh so neat, has Sweet Georgia Brown
They all sigh and want to die for Sweet Georgia Brown
I'll tell you just why, you know I don't lie not much
It's been said she knocks 'em dead when she lands in town
Since she came why it's a shame how she cools them downFellas she can't get must be fellas she ain't met
"Georgia on my Mind", imortalizada na interpretação de Ray Charles, e composta para uma certa pessoa chamada Georgia, foi depois adotada oficialmente como o hino do Estado da Georgia.
A clássica versão gravada:
... e ao vivo:
... e ao vivo:
(Hoagy Carmichael e Stuart Gorrell)
Georgia, Georgia,
The whole day through
Just an old sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind
I said oh Georgia
Georgia
A song of you
Comes as sweet and clear
As moonlight through the pines
Other arms reach out to me
Other eyes smile tenderly
Still in peaceful dreams I see
The road leads back to you
I said Georgia,
Ooh Georgia, no peace I find
Just an old sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind
Other arms reach out to me
Other eyes smile tenderly
Still in peaceful dreams I see
The road leads back to you
Georgia,
Georgia,
No peace, no peace I find
Just this old, sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind
I said just an old sweet song,
Keeps Georgia on my mind
